Maggi Hambling

Father, Late December 1997 Oil paint on canvas 1997 – 1703 x 1220 x 25 mm

Maggi Hambling’s painting especially of her father and her ink drawings interested me the most due to the way in the painting like the one above looks drawn rather than painted which make you wonder how she did it and I was also interested in the way that if you saw the work without the name you would wonder who the figures are in the work but when you read the title I believe all three figures are the same person and they are all her father during a Christmas which was part of a series during his last five years of life. I also found her ink drawings on paper quite thought-provoking due to the way the ink has been used on the paper as some are quite precise others are more free and loose.
