I came across Auerbach’s work flicking through the 20th century art book and it stuck out to me in the use of the dark charcoal and watercolours and how dark the image is and you can see where he has rubbed out areas and there is the face there but it is quite ghostly which adds an eerie feeling to the work. Due to the amount he re-worked the image it has tears and rips that you can see and you can see a patch that has been added due to the constant reworking on it which is quite interesting because it does draw your eye to the patch as it is quite apparent. I found it very intriguing because of the way you can see all the marks that the artist has made and overlapped constantly to try and get the finished work.
